Ce dessin panoramique est présenté dans une petite salle qui a été probablement le bureau d'un gradé en résidence au fort au milieu du dix-neuvième siècle. J'ai imaginé ce panorama comme un document militaire qui permettrait de préparer la défense du fort face à l'ennemi qui pourrait surgir du côté savoyard ou français. Ce dessin est une représentation de la vue depuis la terrasse du fort à 320 °, mais surtout un inventaire des points de passage à défendre. Le trait est rigoureux, la facture est un peu clinique, on imagine un gradé qui se servirait de ce dessin pour instruire ses troupes avec une exigence toute militaire. Parcourir ce dessin c'est aussi rencontrer une infinité de coups de crayons posés comme autant de vérifications et d'attentions stratégiques, chemins, forêts, cours d’eau, voies d’accès sont scrupuleusement mentionnés, nous sommes assaillis par cette hyper vigilance.

This panoramic drawing is presented in a small room which was probably the office of an officer in residence at the fort in the mid-nineteenth century. I imagined this panorama as a military document that would make it possible to prepare the defense of the fort against the enemy who could arise from the Savoyard or French side. This drawing is a representation of the view from the terrace of the fort at 320°, but above all an inventory of the crossing points to be defended. The line is rigorous, the invoice is a little clinical, we imagine an officer who would use this drawing to instruct his troops with a very military requirement. To browse this drawing is also to encounter an infinity of pencil strokes posed as so many checks and strategic attentions, paths, forests, waterways, access roads are scrupulously mentioned, we are assailed by this hyper vigilance.
